Sharifa Rezaei

Ms. Sharifa Rezaei is an owner of a small tailoring business with four female employees. Her tailoring business was affected by the regime change as many of her debtors left the country, which resulted in substantial losses. In January 2024, Ms. Rezaei applied for a financing of AFN 150,000 from OXUS and requested a Grant of AFN 100,000 from ACGF to purchase different textiles and two sewing machines. The financial appraisal of the business demonstrated that the business was facing shortage of working capital, particularly considering that Ms. Rezaei was producing clothes for customers on demand who would provide the raw materials themselves. The Grant project allowed the Ms. Rezaei to pursue an additional business model by producing finished goods that can be sold to retailers. In addition, the Grant project led to the hiring of two additional female employees, thereby increasing production capacities of the business. Overall, the Grant and the financing helped to address the shortage of working capital in the business, to retain the existing jobs of the four female employees and to contribute to a sustainable long-term development of the business.
